I have a question for you? Has something out of the blue ever struck so fast and furious that you didn’t see it coming? Well, that’s what happened to me with gardening.
My name is Jen. I am most recently an empty-nester with a new found love for gardening. It couldn’t have happened at a better time. I was dreading my youngest of 3 leaving for college. I cried all last fall at the thought of him leaving home. (We can talk more about this later). So what happened you ask? It’s really the dumbest story. Truly…
I live in the middle of the city on close to 5 acres. You would never know it though. Most people don’t even know there is a house where I live. It’s densely wooded, and the entrance to my driveway is quite discreet. Why am I telling you this? Well the point is the dense woods. Most of our yard is wooded and deep shade. We have “strips” of grass around the house that probably takes an entire 15 minutes to cut. I have a beautiful red brick path that takes you to the side of my house. The grass wouldn’t grow. It’s maybe 30 foot by 10 foot strip. So…..I decided to plant a hosta garden. I did this maybe 3 years ago and put in maybe 5 or 6 hostas, nothing exciting.
This year tho…I thought hmmm maybe I should add a few…so off to Pinterest, and Instagram, and Tik Tok I went to research everything shade. Little did I know that this would be the spring board for a new found hobby. Let’s just say I tripled that amount of plants in that area and then thought hmmmm I have a pretty rock wall along the back, wouldn’t that be beautiful if I planted hostas that would drape along that as well? That lead to clearing trees for weeks. And this is where it all began!
So if you’ve read this far, perhaps I’ve sparked your interest? Follow along with me as I share my successes and failures in my newfound hobby. It will be lighthearted and I am not shy when I screw something up, I will own it 😉 I would also love to hear your sucesses and failures
